Past Fantasy Outlooks
2012
2011
2010
Even as Fresno State abandons its pro-style offense for more of a spread design, Rouse should remain the team's workhorse in 2012. He finished 2011 with 1,544 yards and 13 touchdowns on the ground (4.7 YPC) as well as 32 receptions for 228 yards and a touchdown in 13 games. Despite serving as the focal point of the Fresno offense, Rouse benefits from strong quarterback play (Derek Carr) that keeps defenses from stacking too heavily against the run, and he was relatively matchup-proof in 2011 as he produced against defenses like California, Nebraska, Boise State and Utah State, posting a combined 467 yards and two touchdowns against them.
Rouse is the top running back for a run-heavy, pro-style offense in Fresno, but he’s ranked this low because he was a bit inconsistent and had injury troubles last year. But he still managed to finish with 1,260 yards and 10 touchdowns from scrimmage last year, so it seems like he’ll finish with nice stats even if he misses a game or two. He might have it a bit rougher than a year ago, however, as Fresno will be breaking in a new starter at quarterback.
Rouse is no Ryan Mathews, but he's still the next big-time Fresno State running back. He ran for 479 yards and four touchdowns as a freshman last year, and he won't face serious competition for the feature back role this year. He'll lose some carries as Fresno always has good runners waiting to get to work, but Rouse should be a very good RB2 option at the least in WAC-only leagues, and he warrants serious consideration in other formats, too.
