January 7, 2012
Pierce will enter the 2012 NFL Draft, the Associated Press reports.
ANALYSIS
Pierce was hugely successful at Temple, running for 3,570 yards (5.4 YPC) and 53 touchdowns in 35 games. Unfortunately, Pierce was often injured in college, most notably dealing with concussion, ankle, hamstring and shoulder issues at various points. For that reason, it's tough to envision any NFL teams being fully sold on him as a workhorse back. A team that considers Pierce for a committee or change-of-pace role has little reason to not be impressed with him, on the other hand. Pierce runs well when he's on the field and is a natural as a running back. Although he's unlikely to wow anyone in timed drills, Pierce is still an NFL athlete. His strength clearly lies in his exceptional balance and standout cutting ability, though his vision is also convincing. Pierce should go in the second or third round.

Past Fantasy Outlooks
2011
2010
With the arrival of former Florida offensive coordinator Steve Addazio as Temple's new coach, it seems like Pierce's days of fantasy dominance may be in the rearview. Addazio was a questionable playcaller for Florida in 2010, and his option-spread offense showed basically no ability or interest in running the ball inside. In a speed-oriented spread option offense, Pierce might even see the bench in favor of the smaller, more elusive Matt Brown.
Pierce set the MAC on fire as a true freshman, tearing the league apart for 1,361 yards and 16 touchdowns while averaging 5.77 yards per carry. All this occurred despite the Owls having almost no passing game to speak of to help Pierce out. If he can produce like that against the stacked defenses he saw, you know he'll be top-notch again in 2010. The one issue with Pierce is injury concerns, as he sustained a shoulder injury at the end of the year, but he generally shows the ability to carry the workload. Fellow runner Matt Brown should give Pierce some help in the running game this year, but that's a good thing if it keeps Pierce healthy.
