FantasyAces College Football: Saturday Bowl Game Breakdown

FantasyAces College Football: Saturday Bowl Game Breakdown

This article is part of our FantasyAces College Football series.

The following is a breakdown of FantasyAces' Saturday bowl game slate.

QB

Jeff Driskel – Louisiana Tech vs. Arkansas State ($5350)

Louisiana Tech is projected to score around 34 or 35 points, and Driskel scored on 29 of Louisiana Tech's 50 offensive touchdowns this year. Two or three touchdowns is a safe projection for Driskel in this one, and the tempo of this game should grant him decent yardage totals, too. Arkansas State's pass defense has great numbers this year, but it generally proved vulnerable against efficient passing games, getting lit up by USC, Georgia State, Appalachian State and New Mexico State for 14 touchdowns through the air.

Anu Solomon – Arizona vs. New Mexico ($4500)

As of press time, the over/under (64.5) and spread (Arizona -7.5) on this game project Arizona to score roughly 35 to 37 points, and I think the spread is being a little generous to New Mexico, who lost to Arizona State earlier this year by the score of 34-10. Either way, Arizona is without its best player, star running back Nick Wilson, which could help Solomon get a higher share of stats than he might have normally.

Honorable mention: Fredi Knighten - Arkansas State vs. Louisiana Tech ($5700), Kenny Potter - San Jose State vs. Georgia State ($5300)

RB

Kenneth Dixon – Louisiana Tech vs. Arkansas State ($5800)

Dixon has 83 career touchdowns from scrimmage in 46 games. This is the last game of his Louisiana Tech career, and he's playing in the game with the highest over/under on the slate. The chalk might be thick, but I can't think of a good reason to fade Dixon other than blind contrarianism.

Tyler Ervin – San Jose State vs. Georgia State ($5600)

This is a game that might lack tempo, but on a small slate it still makes sense to make room for a workload hog like Ervin. Not only did Ervin carry the ball 264 times for 1,469 yards and 13 touchdowns in 12 games, but he was busy as a pass catcher, too, snagging 44 passes for 337 yards and two touchdowns.

Honorable mention: Marcus Cox – Appalachian State vs. Ohio ($5050), Michael Gordon – Arkansas State vs. Louisiana Tech ($4300), Jared Baker – Arizona vs. New Mexico ($4200), Joe Williams – Utah vs. BYU ($4100), A.J. Ouellette – Ohio vs. Appalachian State ($4050)

WR

Trent Taylor – Louisiana Tech vs. Arkansas State ($5000)

Carlos Henderson is the top big-play threat at receiver for Louisiana Tech, but Taylor is the No. 1 wideout in terms of targets. That leaves Taylor as the superior projection for cash games at least, as the junior has 89 catches for 1,133 yards and eight touchdowns in 12 games.

Penny Hart – Georgia State vs. San Jose State ($4900)

The lead receiver for Georgia State, Hart is a dynamic slot-type of receiver who has a high floor due to the shortness of his routes, but has a surprisingly high ceiling due to the big-play potential he offers after the catch. He's been incredible for a true freshman, catching 70 passes for 1,085 yards and eight touchdowns even in a crowded offense.

Honorable mention: Carlos Henderson – Louisiana Tech vs. Arkansas State ($4450), Cayleb Jones – Arizona vs. New Mexico ($4050), Mitch Mathews – BYU vs. Utah ($3900)

TE

Billy Freeman – San Jose State vs. Georgia State ($3700)

Freeman is pretty much an equal fantasy option to the other tight end in this game, Georgia State's Keith Rucker (also at $3700). I'm ranking Freeman first of the two, however, because there is less competition for targets on the San Jose State offense. Freeman is probably the best healthy pass catcher for San Jose State, whereas Rucker has to compete for targets in an offense featuring Hart, Robert Davis and Donovan Harden.

Honorable mention: Keith Rucker – Georgia State vs. San Jose State ($3700), Harrison Handley - Utah vs. BYU ($3400)
