Mathis will start at corner for the Lions after being one of their more productive players last season. Still, he's not likely to put up huge numbers.

Mathis will enter 2012 coming off an ACL tear and operating on a one-year contract. While reports characterized the veteran's recovery as being ahead of schedule, there has to be some concern, given the nature of the injury and Mathis' age. He's unlikely to be a full participant in training camp, and that could open the door to newcomer Aaron Ross, who spent last season with the Giants, to step in opposite Derek Cox. Prior to his injury last season, Mathis looked like a mirror of the player he was in his prime, but even if he does assume his regular role in 2012, he's unlikely to really make an IDP splash.

Mathis' skills have declined, but he will still start at cornerback. Still, expect his interception numbers to continue to decline, as his best days are behind him.

Mathis will start at cornerback in 2009, but, given that his play has declined over the last few years, he should not be among the premier IDP choices anymore.

Mathis had only one interception in 2007, down from eight the year before. Most of that can be chalked up to the fact that teams have simply stopped throwing the ball his way, but that's a troublesome sign for fantasy owners. The addition of Drayton Florence to the Jags' defensive backfield could lead to slightly more production from Mathis, but IDP players may just want to consider Mahtis as one of those players who is much better on the field than he is on paper.

Mathis had a breakout year in 2006, and there is no reason to believe that his strong play won't continue in 2007. His eight interceptions and 56 tackles in 2006 make him one of the top IDP's at the cornerback position, though the team's lack of experience at safety in 2007 may cause Mathis to take less chances on balls, leading to less interceptions.

Mathis has quickly established himself as one of the league’s top cornerbacks. He blends a rare combination of height and speed with an excellent instinct for the big play. In 2006, he will look intercept at least five passes for the third season in a row. If you draft the Jaguars defense, Mathis will be the guy most likely to give you a defensive touchdown. He’s always a homerun threat once he picks it off.

The speedy Mathis tyed for the team lead in interceptions last season with five. The second-year cornerback has started every game he has played in his first two years in the NFL and is one of the leagues most promising young corners. Look for him take another step foward this season and put up even better numbers in the young and extremely talented Jaguars defense.

Mathis was a 16-game starter at both safety and cornerback in 2003 -- his rookie season. He's a physical corner who was third on the team in tackles and picked off two passes. Mathis will continue to start at right corner on a defensive unit that made great strides last year and should improve in 2004.
