The Chiefs waived Webb on Monday, the Associated Press reports.
ANALYSIS
Entering training camp, Webb faced an uphill battle to make the roster this season, and that was before the team brought in Amani Toomer and Ashley Lelie to compete for spots on the depth chart. He never lived up to the potential Herm Edwards saw in him in Kansas City.

Webb had 28 catches in 2007 and was a potential deep sleeper entering last season, but was a non-factor all year long and finished with just five receptions. However, the Chiefs extended him a one-year tender offer in February to keep him around, so he will be given another chance to make an offensive impact in 2009. Unfortunately, even a best-case scenario has him as the Chiefs’ No. 4 receiver to begin the year, so Webb should be largely ignored in fantasy play.
Webb’s fantasy value hinges on whether he outplays Devard Darling and Will Franklin and claims the starting job opposite Dwayne Bowe. If he doesn’t, he has little value as the No. 3 receiver in a poor passing offense. If he does, he’s worth a look in deeper leagues, since he won’t command much defensive attention and will be guaranteed a fair number of targets. Darling is widely regarded as the favorite, but Webb had more catches last season (28) than Darling had in four years in Baltimore (20). Consider Webb worth a late-round pick in deep leagues as a No. 5 receiver if he wins the job.
Webb caught three passes in limited action last season, but we think he could see a major jump in 2007. Herm Edwards praised Webb's effort throughout the offseason and vowed that the big-play receiver would see more opportunities. With the quarterback and offensive line in transition, Kansas City's passing attack will be shaky, but Webb could emerge as the third or fourth receiving option with the potential to be more than that in the years to come.
Battling for a roster spot.
