Sweed was waived Wednesday, according to Steelers.com.
ANALYSIS
He was dealing with a minor shoulder sprain and, once the Steelers signed Jerricho Cotchery, there wasn't much reason to keep Sweed around. While Sweed flamed out as a Steeler, catching just seven passes since being drafted in 2008, his 6-4, 220-frame may help get him a look elsewhere as a potential red zone target.

Past Fantasy Outlooks
2010
2009
2008
Sweed was rarely used in 2009 and missed the last few weeks of the season due to personal issues. It was hoped 2010 would be a step forward for the young receiver, but he has been placed on IR due to a ruptured Achilles' Heel.
Hines Ward and Santonio Holmes have the Steelers' top two wideout slots locked up, but who ends up as the No. 3 guy (replacing Nate Washington) has yet to be determined. At 6-5, Sweed has the size to develop into a red zone weapon for the team and it's a good sign that he showed improvement in the steam's spring practices. He's a dart to be sure, but remember he was considered a first-round talent heading into last year's draft and the team seems keen on providing Ben Roethlisberger with the sort of big body at receiver that has been lacking since the departure of Plaxico Burress.
Sweed will start the 2008 season as Pittsburgh's fourth wideout behind Hines Ward, Santonio Holmes and Nate Washington, but should still see action in the red zone. He could pass Washington at some point in the season and, standing five inches taller than both Ward and Holmes, would have the potential to haul in a good number of touchdowns.
