November 23, 2020
Peko signed a contract with the Cardinals on Monday, Darren Urban of the team's official site reports.
ANALYSIS
The veteran defensive tackle, who turns 36 later this week, will be reunited with defensive coordinator Vance Joseph, who he worked with in both Cincinnati and Denver previously in his career. Corey Peters (knee) was recently lost for the season, so adding Peko gives Arizona some much-needed depth along the interior of their defensive line.

When it came to finding a veteran to replace Sylvester Williams at nose tackle, head coach Vance Joseph turned to Peko, who he worked with for two seasons in Cincinnati. Peko has tended to be more of a clogger than rusher during his career with 18.5 sacks in 11 seasons, though five of those came in 2015 with Joseph on the staff. It’s possible that the likes of Von Miller, Shane Ray, and Derek Wolfe will free Peko up to be more of a rusher in Denver. Otherwise, his value likely lies in freeing up space for middle linebackers Brandon Marshall and Todd Davis to make plays.
A model of consistency, Peko has missed just five games during his 10-year career, and played in all 16 regular-season games nine times. Last year he had a career-high five sacks to go along with 35 tackles, more than respectable numbers for a defensive tackle. He’ll be the Bengals’ day one starter, shoring up the defensive front for the duration for the duration of the season.
Peko will be the Bengals' starting nose tackle in 2012 and will likely post similar numbers to a year ago, when he recorded 66 total tackles and 2.5 sacks.
Peko is a high-energy player that thrived under new defensive coordinator Mike Zimmer's system last season. He's particularly strong at stopping the run. Just don't look for him to rack up big fantasy numbers - as a defensive tackle, his job frequently entails tying up the offensive linemen so that the linebackers can make the tackle.
Peko will start at left defensive tackle. Like most tackles, he has no fantasy value.
