Biermann worked out for the Bucs on Tuesday, Greg Auman of the Tampa Bay Times reports.
ANALYSIS
The parade of players with ties to the current Bucs staff from their days in Atlanta continued with Biermann, whose visit was prompted by Tampa having lost defensive end Jacquies Smith to a torn ACL in the opener. Biermann played for current Bucs defensive coordinator Mike Smith from 2008-14 when the latter was Falcons head coach, and he amassed 21 sacks during that period. The 31-year-old was released by the Bills during final cuts in early September after an eight-year tenure in Atlanta that saw him amass 333 tackles (218 solo), 23.5 sacks, three forced fumbles, two fumble recoveries and a pair of interceptions. Although he wasn't signed following the workout, the veteran figures to remain within the team's sights for the foreseeable future.

Biermann signed a one-year deal to remain with the Falcons during the offseason, and he hopes to build on a solid 2014 campaign. Last year he notched 75 tackles and 4.5 sacks, and he could boost those sack numbers in a revamped defensive system. If he can hold off Tyson Jackson and O'Brien Schofield, he'll be in line for a similar statline this season.
Biermann is currently projected to be the starting left defensive end for the Falcons in 2014.. Biermann is coming off a torn Achilles, but if he earns the starting job, there will be plenty of tackles and sacks to be had. He's a situation to monitor as camp begins.
Biermann doesn't excel in any one area, but he's a versatile player who should see a sizable snap count now that both John Abraham and Ray Edwards are no longer around. While the Falcons did sign Osi Umenyiora, it should still be a net gain in playing time for Biermann. Keep in mind while Biermann's unlikely to have much value in leagues that reward heavily for sacks, he should pile up some cheap tackles at least.
Biermann will see action on special teams and in the defensive end rotation that includes himself, John Abraham and Ray Edwards. His upside will always be limited unless Abraham or Edwards go down with an injury, but he's still likely to get to 40 total tackles and notch a couple of sacks.
Biermann will sit behind the likes of John Abraham and Ray Edwards to begin 2011, and will struggle to find playing time unless the injury bug strikes. He'll have a tough time matching the 35 tackles he had last season.
Biermann will start at left defensive end.
Biermann is a good pass rusher, but does not fit in as a starter for the 2009 season.
Biermann is at the bottom of the depth chart for defensive end, and a good training camp and preseason could earn him a spot on special teams in 2008.
