Knee - MCL
February 22, 2013
Ringer underwent arthroscopic surgery on his knee to repair an injury suffered in the 2012 season, according to Jim Wyatt of The Tennessean.
ANALYSIS
Ringer suffered a partially torn MCL in Week 5 that resulted in the end of his season. Though this is a late surgery, Ringer is expected to only need one month to fully recover so he should be ready for normal offseason activities. This is important as he is scheduled to reach free agency next month.

Ringer is looking for a position on a roster heading into the season.
Ringer played in just 12 games last season, and his 3.1 YPC was easily a career low. Part of the problem was Tennessee’s offensive line playing poorly, and Ringer did make big strides as a receiver. Chris Johnson remains the Titans’ workhorse, but Ringer would likely be the first in line to replace him should Johnson get hurt. Despite the poor line, there are other interesting young pieces on Tennessee’s offense, so if Ringer ever became the team’s starter, he’d be a viable fantasy option.
Ringer averaged 4.7 YPC in limited work last season, but he needs to contribute more on special teams to secure his role on the roster. The Titans’ backfield clearly belongs to Chris Johnson, but if he were to get hurt, Ringer looks likely to step in, putting him on the radar. Ringer has impressed when the ball has been in his hands throughout his brief career.
With the release of Lendale White earlier this year, Ringer appears to have inherited the backup running back role in Tennessee for 2010. Being the backup to arguably the best running back in the NFL will mean that his number of carries per game will be low, you never know what could happen with injury and other situations that may provide Ringer unexpected opportunities to be a productive back. Currently Chris Johnson has been holding out of Titans' offseason workouts due to contract issues and Ringer has been acting as the team's number one back in practices.
The smallish Ringer will likely see some carries as the Titans' third-string running back as a rookie, but his presence is more of threat to the job security of Chris Henry than it is to either Chris Johnson or LenDale White, who enter the season as the team's one-two punch at RB.
