Brandstater will compete with Austin Davis for the No. 3 quarterback job with the loser either ending up on the practice squad or the waiver wire.
The former Dolphins third QB found himself unemployed after Miami signed Matt Moore to challenge Chad Henne for the starting role. The Cowboys signed him after the 'Phins cut him loose, but he's got even longer odds of seeing the field in Dallas.
Indy claimed Brandstater off waivers from the Broncos last spring and he'll battle for the third-string quarterback role. The Colts have already said Curtis Painter will be Peyton Manning's backup, so Brandstater may not even make the final roster as Indy rarely keeps three QBs on the active roster. Still, Painter isn't stiff competition, so Brandstater could be in the backup mix if the Colts change their tune.
Brandstater has the prototypical build for a professional quarterback, but starts the season as a third stringer behind starter Kyle Orton and backup Chris Simms.
