ANALYSIS
This is a definite blow to the Patriots' pass defense, as he had spent time starting at right cornerback. Logan Ryan appears to be the next man up to assume full-time duties for Brown.

With the Patriots having bid adieu to cornerbacks Darrelle Revis, Brandon Browner, Alfonzo Dennard and Kyle Arrington this offseason, Brown will provide the team with added depth and experience at the position. The 30-year-old recorded 55 tackles in 14 games for the Raiders in 2015 and could push for a starting slot with New England.
Brown figures to see most his time in nickel and dime formations, but could be forced into a more prominent role if D.J. Hayden's ankle injury lingers. In his seventh and final season with the 49ers, Brown recorded 32 tackles (29 solo) and 10 passes defensed in 13 games.
Brown has registered 95 tackles and six interceptions during his last two years as the 49ers starting cornerback on the left side and enters 2013 with the job in-hand but with added competition during camp. The competition he should see from veterans who have signed in the offseason should be more than enough to keep him motivated and another season of 50-plus tackles with a handful of interceptions should be expected.
Brown will be a backup cornerback.
Brown gained some extra repetitions during spring workouts due to the absence of starting corners Nate Clements and Shawntae Spencer, and he'll likely serve as the team's nickelback despite a few lackluster performances during the 2009 season.
Brown will serve as the team's primary backup at cornerback.
