Sheffield was released by the Chiefs on Tuesday, Scout.com reports.

ANALYSIS
Sheffield, a 2010 fifth-round draft pick by Kansas City, was released to make room for linebacker Tamba Hali, who is coming off a one-game suspension after violating the NFL drug policy. Sheffield played in all 16 games for the Chiefs last year, recording nine tackles.

Sheffield will compete for a roster spot as a reserve outside linebacker.

Sheffield will compete for snaps at the outside linebacker position opposite Tamba Hali. He is expected to backup Andy Studebaker and could rotate with rookie Justin Houston as another blitz specialist on passing downs. He likely won't have the tackle numbers to make him a worthy IDP play, however.

Cameron is a hybrid rusher with good explosion off the edge who should be a good fit at outside linebacker in the Chiefs' 3-4 scheme, but he's not expected to crack the starting lineup this season. No need to draft him in seasonal IDP leagues.
