Knee - ACL
August 24, 2015
Gibson (knee) was placed on injured reserve Monday, Mike Reiss of ESPN Boston reports.
ANALYSIS
After hauling in a game-high eight receptions for 60 yards Saturday in New Orleans, Gibson sustained a knee injury in the latter stages of the game. He was seen favoring the knee in the locker room afterward and MRI results have now confirmed Gibson suffered a torn ACL. With Gibson out of the picture this season, the road to the 53-man roster has been made easier for Aaron Dobson (hamstring), at the very least.

Gibson, who turns 28 in August, is coming off a season in which he caught 29 passes for 295 yards and a TD in 14 games for the Dolphins. An ACL injury in August ended his 2015 season.
Gibson didn't show much chemistry with Ryan Tannehill in his first campaign with the Dolphins, and a knee injury cost him the second half of the season. Assuming he even fully recovers, Gibson will now have to fight off second-round pick Jarvis Landry for targets behind starters Mike Wallace and Brian Hartline.
Gibson had a productive season in St. Louis a year ago, averaging 8.4 YPT and 13.5 YPC on 82 targets, but the Rams didn't re-sign him, instead opting to go with younger, more dynamic players. At 6-0, 210 and with decent speed and good quickness, Gibson is a capable possession type, but not much of a threat to hurt defenses deep. He signed with the Dolphins in March and should fill a No. 3 role behind Mike Wallace and Brian Hartline.
The Rams were a passing-game wasteland last year, and Gibson, like their other receivers, struggled as a result. But Sam Bradford’s healthy again, and with Brandon Lloyd gone, someone’s going to see targets in St. Louis this year. At 6-0, 210, with decent speed and good quickness, Gibson is a possession type, but not much of a threat to hurt defenses down the field or in the red zone. Rookie Brian Quick, Danny Amendola and former Giant Steve Smith should also vie for looks.
Despite the upgrade in talent within the Rams' wide receiving corp Gibson has shined in training camp and remains a legit candidate to win one of the starting jobs. We still see him falling back to 5th or 6th when all is said and done, but stranger things have happened.
Gibson flashed a lot of talent after coming over from the Eagles early in 2009 and is expected to be end up as the team's No. 4 or No. 5 wide receiver. That being said, the competition at wideout this year looks like it will be incredibly stiff and it's entirely possible that Gibson could end up as a starter or just barely hanging onto a roster spot. It's definitely the key position to pay attention to during Rams' camp this year.
Gibson will battle to make the team as a fourth or fifth wide receiver. He has nice upside, but the Eagles have a lot of depth at the position, so he's unlikely to make an impact in 2009.
