2023 Fantasy Outlook
McCoy started three games last season for the Cardinals and came off the bench in another after Kyler Murray tore his ACL less than two minutes into the Week 14 game. The Cardinals won just one of those four games while McCoy threw for one TD and three interceptions. His average target depth was only 6.1 yards, and he completed just three of 10 attempts of 20-plus yards. McCoy got a chance this summer to lock down the Week 1 starting job, but the Cardinals ended up releasing him in late August instead, moving forward with Joshua Dobbs and Clayton Tune as their quarterbacks until Murray is cleared. Cut loose by Arizona
The Cardinals will release McCoy on Monday, Adam Schefter of ESPN reports.
ANALYSIS
The Cardinals are left with Joshua Dobbs, Clayton Tune and David Blough as options to start Week 1 at Washington, as McCoy is no longer on the team and Kyler Murray (knee) is expected to be kept ineligible on the reserve/PUP list for at least the first four games. Schefter suggests Dobbs, a recent trade acquisition, is the favorite to start Week 1. McCoy, meanwhile, will turn 37 the first week of September and may struggle to find a backup quarterback job elsewhere.

McCoy will likely decide whether or not he wants to sign with the Jets within the next week, Dianna Russini of The Athletic reports.
ANALYSIS
New York reached out to McCoy after Aaron Rodgers tore his Achilles on Monday. If the free-agent quarterback signs with the Jets, McCoy would compete with Zach Wilson for the starting job under center with Rodgers expected to be out for the rest of the regular season at minimum.

In his first season backing up Kyler Murray last year, McCoy was called upon for three spot starts when the Cardinals' franchise quarterback missed time with a sprained ankle, a span in which the 12-year pro completed 68 of 90 passes (75.6 percent) for 684 yards, three touchdowns and one interception. McCoy's 201 snaps on offense were his most since 2014, but assuming Murray avoids the injury bug this fall, the former is unlikely to see much more than kneel downs at the end of contests. Before that potentially happens, though, a calf injury will keep him on IR for at least the first four contests, giving backup duties to Trace McSorley.
