The 26-year-old failed to top 200 yards passing for the second straight game, throwing one touchdown with no interceptions in each outing. Gabbert has done a good job protecting the ball over the past month, with just one interception in four games, but his safe style of play isn't fantasy-friendly. He carries little fantasy value at this time, and he will next face a Bengals defense that led the NFL in fewest points allowed per game heading into Week 14.
Gabbert completed 18-of-32 passes for 196 yards and a touchdown Sunday versus the Bears. He also ran six times for 75 yards and a crucial touchdown that sent the game into overtime.

Gabbert will continue to serve as the starting quarterback out of the 49ers' Week 10 bye, Matt Maiocco of CSN Bay Area reports.

Exclusive Fantasy Analysis (FREE PREVIEW)

Playing in place of Colin Kaepernick on Sunday against the Falcons, Gabbert acquitted himself well in his first start since 2013, completing 15 of 25 passes for 185 yards and two touchdowns. Gabbert also tossed two picks, but of utmost importance, the 49ers boasted some balance, augmenting the passing game with 133 yards on the ground. Expect him to be under center on Nov. 22 at Seattle.
49ers head coach Jim Tomsula did not say whether Gabbert will continue to start at quarterback after the upcoming bye week, CSN Bay Area reports. ďGabbert was our starter today,Ē Tomsula said. ďAnd I donít have a comment past that.Ē

Gabbert will start Sunday against the Falcons in place of Colin Kaepernick, Kyle McLorg of Bay Area Sports Guy reports.

Exclusive Fantasy Analysis (FREE PREVIEW)

Kaepernick struggled mightily in the 49ers' last two games, so the coaching staff decided to make a change at the quarterback position, and give Gabbert the nod Sunday. For those looking for a Kaepernick replacement, Gabbert played well during the preseason (82.1 completion percentage), but the majority of his attempts were low-risk checkdowns. He has appeared in just four games since 2012, while owning a 53.2 completion percentage and 23:24 TD:INT ratio in 29 career games.

RotoWire's Preseason Outlooks

2015

Subscribe now to see our 2015 outlook.

2014

The former top-10 draft pick, Gabbert, was acquired by the 49ers this off-season in exchange for a sixth round pick. He has been a monumental bust so far through his three years with the Jaguars (53.3 CMP%, 22 TD, 24 INT), but he is hoping to preserve his career as a backup behind Colin Kaepernick.

2013

Heading into the offseason, it was really a coin flip as to who will be the starting quarterback for the Jaguars in 2013, but for now, Gabbert will hold on to it. That said, the Jags' new staff has no loyalty to Gabbert, but he's also younger than Chad Henne. Gabbert improved in his second year in the league, increasing his completion rate by nearly eight percentage points and his YPA by more than a half-yard. Still, even after the improvement, his YPA was only 6.0, and the team's passing game didnít take off last year until Henne took over.

2012

Despite playing so cautiously as to average just 10.5 yards per completion (31st) as a rookie, Gabbert managed to connect on only 50.8 percent of his passes. Itís too early to write him off completely, but the juxtaposition of those numbers generally indicates a profound and perhaps unfixable lack of anticipation skills. Gabbert just didnít know how to read a defense last year, or at least was too afraid to stand in the pocket long enough to do so. This problem was evident in college, too. The additions of receivers Justin Blackmon and Laurent Robinson should help somewhat, but Gabbert needs to play with more confidence and better instincts, or Chad Henne will be throwing to them before long.

2011

Although it was a big surprise to see Gabbert fall to the 10th pick in the draft, itís still tough to see him stealing anything more than a start or two from David Garrard in 2011. Gabbert could have a lot to learn switching from Missouriís screen-heavy spread offense to a ball-control NFL offense, and itís not as if Garrard has been a huge liability as a starter. Unless Garrard regresses badly, he figures to be just good enough to stay on the field another year.
