David Wilson: Past News Updates   ( ▲ View most recent update )

Giants coach Tom Coughlin said he's counting on Wilson (neck) but won't be in any rush to have the young running back contribute, Ralph Vacchiano of the New York Daily News reports. "I'm counting on [Wilson], but I am not going to put him in any circumstance until it's an absolute that he's 100 percent," Coughlin said. "I'm not going to mess with that one."

Wilson (neck) -- who is bouncing back from a herniated disc surgery -- is progressing in his recovery, with ESPN.com relaying that he is expected be ready for the start of training camp.

Exclusive Fantasy Analysis (FREE PREVIEW)

Assuming that's the case, it's unclear if Wilson would be able to assume a full camp workload, but in any case, his progress is encouraging. The 2012 first-rounder showed promise as a rookie, but was forced to miss the last 11 games of the 2013 season, eventually undergoing surgery on Jan. 16. If healthy, he could re-emerge on the fantasy radar, but Giants GM Jerry Reese has previously hinted that the team plans to proceed deliberately with Wilson, while suggesting that the team will head into the season with "some contingency plans at the running back position."
Wilson is reportedly recovering well from last month's neck surgery, ESPN's Dan Graziano reports.

Wilson will undergo neck surgery later this month, Ralph Vacchiano of the New York Daily News reports.

Exclusive Fantasy Analysis (FREE PREVIEW)

This has been a realistic possibility since the neck injury forced Wilson out of action in Week 5, but GM Jerry Reese confirmed Thursday that the 22-year-old will indeed need surgery. Wilson was officially diagnosed with spinal stenosis, and while doctors have said that Wilson should be able to play in 2014, it's the type of injury that could have an adverse effect on Wilson's career.
Wilson's intention is to play in 2014, despite a season-ending neck injury sustained in Week 5, according to the running back himself.

Wilson has spinal stenosis, so his optimism should be taken with a grain of salt. He might need surgery still, and the prognosis for the condition varies widely between different players
Wilson may need neck surgery, but Giants GM Jerry Reese said doctors believe the running back will be able to play in 2014, New York Daily News writer Ralph Vacchiano reports.

2012

Wilson busted out after a couple of nondescript seasons at Virginia Tech, Wilson busted out as a junior last year, rushing for 1,709 yards with nine touchdowns while getting 5.9 YPC. The former track star is extremely athletic, and he led all of college football in yards after contact last season. He had fumbling issues, and durability is also a concern, but the Giants let Brandon Jacobs leave via free agency, and itís hard to argue with GM Jerry Reeseís track record when it comes to the draft. Taken in the first round, Wilson is expected to open 2012 behind Ahmad Bradshaw on the depth chart, but heís a flier with plenty of upside.
