He's still a capable blocker and a respected veteran, but the Jets don't need him to carry the ball. That's a fantasy killer, obviously.
Richardson will continue in his lead-blocking role, a key job in what should be a run-heavy Jets' attack, but he won't see enough carries himself to merit fantasy consideration.
Like most fullbacks, he's a lead blocker first and foremost. Richardson might steal a touchdown or two on goal-line trickery, but he's not going to get enough regular touches to be a fantasy factor.
Richardson came to the Vikings in 2006 to serve as Chester Taylor's lead blocker. However, head coach Brad Childress has hinted at using two-back sets in 2007 that would put Adrian Peterson and Chester Taylor on the field at the same time, limiting the amount of time Richardson sees and the number of touches he gets.
Starting fullback. He helped pave the way for great seasons from both Priest Holmes and Larry Johnson while in Kansas City, what can he do for the Vikings along with an improved offensive line?
Simply put, Richardson is one of the best fullbacks in the game. Selected to his second straight Pro Bowl in 2004, Richardson helped pave the way for great seasons from both Priest Holmes and Larry Johnson. In addition to his tremendous blocking, he is also a threat to catch the ball out of the backfield. While Richardson is not a fantasy commodity himself, he certainly contributes to the values of all his backfield mates.
On a team that led the NFL in scoring, Richardson finished with zero TDs. He's a blocking back, pure and simple, and a good one at that. The 10-year veteran made the Pro Bowl for the first time in 2003 - based solely on his blocking.
