Pondering NFL options
QBFree Agent
February 9, 2021
Bethel-Thompson is considering his NFL opportunities as CFL free agency opens, TSN reports.
ANALYSIS
Bethel-Thompson played the last three years for Toronto of the CFL. Last season, the 32-year-old posted 4,000 passing yards and 26 touchdowns, and he's hoping to make the transition to football's top league. He has taken the field for a handful of preseason games, but he's never suited up in an NFL regular-season contest. The Sacramento State product will target a depth role if he, indeed, enters the NFL again.

Bethel-Thompson garnered little to no interest in free agency, and effectively returned to the Eagles as a camp arm. Firmly behind Sam Bradford, Chase Daniel, and Carson Wentz, Bethel-Thompson is unlikely to be on Philadelphia's active roster come Week 1.
Bethel-Thompson chances of makeing the team will more than likely come down to whether or not the organization prefers a veteran quarterback or a novice as the number three QB. We all know Ryan Tannehill will start and Matt Moore is one of the better backups in the league so unless there is an injury or two, whomever is the third QB will be inactive almost every weekend this season.
.
Bethel-Thompson will battle James Vandenberg for the third-string quarterback spot in training camp.
The former Arena Football League and United Football League player spent stints on the practice squads of San Francisco and Miami last season. He's a long shot to make Minnesota's 53-man roster next fall, but the Vikings will give him a look this summer.
