Boom gets lowered Friday

Herron was cut Friday, BuffaloBills.com reports.
ANALYSIS
The Bills weren't going to let rookie Jonathan Williams go -- and they need Reggie Bush for returns -- so in the end it was Mike Gillislee beating out both Herron and James Wilder for a backup running back job.

Herron enters his fifth season having spent his last four struggling to earn carries in the NFL. His 2014 season with the Colts resulted in 78 carries for 351 yards and a touchdown, but other than that year, the Ohio State product has accumulated only 34 carries for 117 yards and zero scores in four seasons. Herron now enters a Bills backfield that is absolutely stacked, with LeSean McCoy, Karlos Willams, Reggie Bush and Mike Gillislee falling solidly ahead of Herron on the running back depth chart. It would likely take a multitude of injuries for Buffalo to allot him any kind of major role in the offense.
“Boom” Herron got his chance to make a contribution last year after Ahmad Bradshaw couldn't stay healthy and Trent Richardson couldn't even approach effectiveness. While he doesn't have the size or strength to hold up in a feature role, Herron's vision and burst through the hole make him a useful runner in smaller doses, and his hands and blitz pickups make him an asset on passing downs. Unfortunately, he was waived/injured by the Colts in advance of Week 1, which could land rookie Josh Robinson the team's No. 2 RB assignment.
Herron will try to win a role as a reserve running back and special teams player. He got just five carries last season, but looks set to begin the season as the No. 3 running back. That role could have significant fantasy value with Trent Richardson, who struggled last season, and Ahmad Bradshaw, returning from a neck injury, at the top two spots.
Herron will add depth to the Bengals' backfield, but is not likely to have much of a fantasy impact.
