Montee Ball is expected to start for the Broncos, but he will have to outplay C.J. Anderson in training camp to win the job.

The Chiefs have acquired Jenkins from the 49ers for Jon Baldwin, the team's official site reports.

Jenkins, the 30th overall pick in the 2012 NFL Draft, will get a well-timed fresh start with the Chiefs but has much to prove, before becoming a reliable fantasy option. For now, we'd expect him to slot in behind new teammates Dwayne Bowe, Donnie Avery and Dexter McCluster.
Jenkins failed to record a single catch during Friday's preseason game against the Chiefs and there is growing speculation that his roster spot could be in jeopardy, according to Matt Maiocco of CSNBayArea.com.

Following Thursday's preseason opener, head coach Jim Harbaugh responded to a question about Jenkins' performance by saying, "Uh, could have been better," the Sacramento Bee's Matt Barrows reports.

Exclusive Fantasy Analysis (FREE PREVIEW)

Coach Harbaugh certainly isn't one to waste his time on courtesies, but much like his brother, he usually has nothing but overly positive things to say about his own players. Jenkins was targeted three times Thursday and fumbled away the only pass that he caught, so there really wasn't any way to sugarcoat it. That said, the fact that Coach Harbaugh "broke character" should still be a bit concerning for anyone with an investment in Jenkins. Reports leading up to training camp indicated that the second-year receiver could be a favorite to lock down a starting job, but he seems to be falling back to the pack rather quickly. Quinton Patton (finger) and Kyle Williams (knee) were both out Thursday, and Jenkins still ended up as the No. 3 receiver behind Anquan Boldin and Marlon Brown, the latter of whom might be a long shot to even make the team.
Though he was targeted three times, Jenkins reeled in just one pass for 11 yards in Thursday's preseason contest against the Broncos.

2013

Jenkins had a negligible role with the 49ers last season, seeing just 35 offensive snaps and one target all season. While the 6-0, 192-pound Jenkins has just average size, he has good speed (4.39 40 at the NFL Combine), runs crisp routes and possesses good hands. Jenkins, the 30th overall pick in the 2012 NFL Draft, will now get a well-timed fresh start with the Chiefs, but he has much to prove before becoming a reliable fantasy option. For now, we'd expect him to slot in behind new teammates Dwayne Bowe, Donnie Avery and Dexter McCluster.

2012

Taken with the 30th pick of this year’s draft, the 6-0, 192-pound Jenkins has just average size, but good speed (4.39 40 at the NFL Combine), runs crisp routes and has good hands. The 49ers are suddenly deep at the receiver position with Michael Crabtree, Randy Moss and Mario Manningham, but Moss is a crap shoot and Manningham’s not getting enough guaranteed money to ensure him a prominent role. Jenkins’ upside in a run-first offense with a good deal of competition for targets – including tight end Vernon Davis – is on the modest side in Year 1, but he’s a prospect to watch for the second half of the year and beyond.
