Mayo started at least one game each of the past six seasons but only once started more than four. He's probably looking at more of the same this year, working as Washington's third or fourth linebacker. Read Past Outlooks

Plays 30 percent of defensive snaps
LBWashington Commanders
January 23, 2024
Mayo started five of 17 games in 2023 and recorded 59 tackles (39 solo) with 2.0 sacks.
ANALYSIS
The 30-year-old linebacker played 350 defensive snaps, which was just 30 percent of the team total but the second most of his career, after he was on the field for 631 with the Giants in 2019. Mayo is scheduled for unrestricted free agency this offseason and shouldn't have much trouble finding work given that he's topped 200 special teams snaps in nine consecutive seasons since entering the NFL as a fifth-round pick with Carolina in 2015.

Past Fantasy Outlooks

2020
2015
Mayo might technically be a starter but isn't likely to get a lot of playing time on passing downs and in the nickel defense. He started four of his 16 games last season and played only 166 total snaps on defense.
Mayo signed a three-year extension in March and projected as the Giants' starting inside linebacker opposite newly acquired Blake Martinez. Martinez was already the much better bet to lead the team in tackles, and it now appears Mayo will miss at least the first half of the season with a meniscus injury.
A rookie fifth-round pick, Mayo is expected to compete for snaps at linebacker and try his hand at special teams this season.
