2023 Fantasy Outlook
Siemian replaces Brandon Allen as the Bengals' backup to Joe Burrow and is playing for his fifth team in five years. Last year he started in one farcical, water-logged game against the Jets in which he injured his oblique in warmups, played through the injury nonetheless and then needed season-ending surgery. Siemian will be an adequate backup in the short-term in the event of a Burrow injury, but would be exposed in the long-term if the worst-case scenario occurs with Burrow. Jake Browning is competing with Siemian for the backup job. Read Past Outlooks

Wins snow game with 70 yards
QBNew York Jets
January 7, 2024
Siemian completed eight of 20 passes for 70 yards and rushed twice for one yard in Sunday's 17-3 win over the Patriots.
ANALYSIS
Siemian isn't exactly a prolific passer in pristine conditions, so it's no surprise that he struggled in snowy Foxborough, but Breece Hall's 178-yard rushing performance and the defense carried the Jets to victory. Siemian finishes the season with 724 passing yards, two touchdowns and four interceptions in five appearances (three starts). He was the fourth man up under center for the Jets after Aaron Rodgers (Achilles), Zach Wilson (concussion) and Tim Boyle, so Siemian will likely be looking to land a backup job somewhere next season.

Siemian finds himself on his fourth team in four years while entering the seventh year of his career. In a string of four starts for the Saints in 2021, he posted an 8:3 TD:INT, displaying an ability to fill in as a backup. However, he's yet to complete 60 percent of his passes in any season. In terms of fantasy expectations, if he has to step in for Justin Fields, Siemian doesn't have a great set of weapons, so he'll likely be an emergency starter, at best, in leagues that start two quarterbacks.
Siemian started 24 games for Denver during the 2016 and 2017 campaigns, but his career 30:24 TD:INT and average of 218.7 yards per game suggest he doesn't quite have what it takes to hold down a starting gig at the NFL level. The Jets brought him in on a cheap one-year deal this offseason to back up second-year quarterback Sam Darnold, and the 27-year-old Siemian doesn't figure to see the field barring an injury to Darnold.
Siemian failed to top a 60-percent completion rate either year and bottomed out with a 12:14 TD:INT in 2017. The Broncos understandably wanted to move on this offseason and ultimately found a trade partner in the Vikings, who at the time were already in discussions that led to signing Kirk Cousins to a three-year, fully guaranteed $84 million contract. While Siemian no longer has the chance to compete for a starting job while inhabiting the same roster as Cousins, he shouldn't have much trouble fending off the other signal-callers on the roster in order to claim the backup role in Minnesota.
A seventh-round pick in 2015, Siemian beat out 2016 first-round pick Paxton Lynch for the starting job last year. Despite a non-throwing shoulder injury that cost him a game, Siemian was serviceable in his first 10 games, throwing 15 touchdowns while averaging 7.4 YPA. A foot injury slowed him down the stretch, as he missed another game and finished with three TDs in the last four contests while posting a 6.2 YPA. Siemian entered training camp in a battle with Lynch for a second straight year, and once again the veteran emerged victorious. Siemian will have to learn a new offense with the arrival of head coach Vance Joseph and offensive coordinator Mike McCoy, but the third-year quarterback will again have two excellent receivers in Demaryius Thomas and Emmanuel Sanders to target and will start for a defense-first team that likely won't ask the quarterback to do much more than not make mistakes.
Siemian earned Denver's starting gig after beating out veteran Mark Sanchez and rookie Paxton Lynch during the preseason. In three exhibition appearances, including two starts, Siemian completed 62.7 percent of his passes, throwing for 285 yards, one touchdown and two interceptions. A seventh-round pick last year, Siemian was active for one game as a rookie, but has yet to throw a regular season pass. Nonetheless, after impressing enough during the buildup to Week 1, Siemian's first career start will come in Week 1 in a Super Bowl rematch against the Panthers.
