RotoWire's Preseason Outlooks
There was no outlook written for Chris Hovan.
Hovan will provide depth for the Rams along the interior of their defensive line and could possibly win a starting spot with a solid camp.
Hovan led all Buccaneers defensive linemen with 36 solo tackles (43 total) in 2008, but only had one sack. Earlier in his career he was more of a pass rusher but has now developed into a solid run-stuffer. Hovan does not really have any value in IDP leagues, but his health is key to the team's overall defensive value and he can help bolster the values of the Buccaneers' linebackers by occupying blockers.
Likely starter at nose tackle. 2 sacks, 31 solo tackles in 2007.
Two sacks, 51 tackles in 16 games at nose tackle in 2006. However, he was not as adept in stuffing the run as he was the previous season, and he'll face competition in camp.
Arguably the MVP of the NFL's best defense in 2005, as Hovan moved to nose guard and became perhaps the league's best defender against the rush. No sacks in 2005, but 35 tackles, 10 assists and two fumble recoveries.
The Bucs are hoping that the addition of Hovan, as well as a healthy Anthony McFarland, will help shore up their run defense this season.
Hovan anchors the Minnesota defensive line. The Vikings are hoping to free him up for more sacks with rookie Kevin Williams taking pressure off him as his inside tackle partner.
