Rosenfels has retired from the NFL, ESPN's Adam Caplan reports.
ANALYSIS
Rosenfels hasn't thrown a pass since 2010 and finishes his career 351-of-562 (62.5 percent) for 4,156 yards, 30 touchdowns, and 29 interceptions. Most backups are known as "caretakers" but Rosenfels was more of a "gunslinger" who didn't quite have the talent to cut it as a starter.

Rosenfels will serve as the No. 3 quarterback and give the Vikings some veteran QB depth behind Christian Ponder and Joe Webb.
Will back up Eli Manning.
Rosenfels was slated to be the No. 3 quarterback for the Vikings, but a late trade in the preseason now has him as the No. 2 quarterback with the Giants. Rosenfels has shown flashes of being an effective quarterback with Houston and Miami, but he's also be turnover prone.
Between the acquisition of Rosenfels and the flirting with Brett Favre, it’s clear the Vikings brass doesn’t believe in Tarvaris Jackson. While Rosenfels is capable of making big plays, he’s too much of a gunslinger – too mistake prone. Last year: 10 picks in 174 attempts, a 30-INT pace for a full-season starter. And he also lost two fumbles, both famously in that game against the Colts that he gave away in unbelievably careless fashion. So steeply discount the 8.2 YPA because he pays too great a price for it in turnovers (12 picks in 240 attempts in ‘07). Plus, Rosenfels is 31 and not getting better. He’s not remotely a solution for the Vikings or for you, even as a backup.
The Texans felt lucky to have a backup quarterback as productive as Rosenfels was when Matt Schaub missed time because of injuries. He led the team to four victories while filling in for Schaub last year and enjoyed career-highs in several categories. Schaub is the unquestioned starter, but Rosenfels is someone to keep an eye on as an in-season replacement should Schaub miss time.
Rosenfels replaces Tony Banks has the No. 2 quarterback to David Carr. He's only thrown 109 pass attempts in five seasons, so even if Carr were to go down, he may not be a good fantasy option.
Rosenfels will battle rookie Brock Berlin for the role as #3 QB on the 2005 Dolphins. Rosenfels has 20 completions in his three year career in Miami, and we expect 2005 to bring very little change in terms of his role.
Rosenfels will be the #3 quarterback in Miami this season. More so than most third string QB's, Rosenfels must be ready for action as he sits behind two fragile guys in the likes of Fiedler and Griese.
