Bentley (knee) was granted his release after asking the Browns to let him go on Wednesday, the Cleveland Plain-Dealer reports.
ANALYSIS
He's apparently healthy, after passing his physical and practicing with the team on Tuesday, but the improvements to the offensive line during his two-year absence had left Bentley with a backup role, and he intends to sign elsewhere with an opportunity to resume his career as a starter.

Bentley claims he will be back on the field for the Browns this season, but modern medicine seems to think differently. Reports have him defying the odds and looking pretty good. If he can return from a devastating knee injury sustained early last season, the Browns' offensive line will be in much better shape than it is expected to be. That, however, is a very big "if."
Bentley is one of the better centers in football.
LeCharles Bentley will be the starting center coming into the season. The saints success is contingent on his health, they need him to regain his pro bowl form and anchor that offensive that line that was horrible last year.
A starting right guard for now, Bentley will likely move to center at some point in his career. But not in 2003, unless Jerry Fontenot gets injured.
