The Eagles have released Schobel.
ANALYSIS
That means for now Brent Celek and Tony Curtis are the only tight ends on the Eagles' roster. Look for the team to add some depth at the position in the coming days.

Schobel will act as the team's No. 2 or No. 3 tight end.
Will battle Kris Wilson to be team's third string tight end.
Schobel will battle newly drafted Brent Celek for the right to back up L.J. Smith at tight end.
Schobel will backup L.J. Smith, in addition to getting on the field in two tight end sets deployed by offensive coordinator Mary Morninwheg.
Schobel is one of three veteran tight ends on the Bengals, splitting time with Reggie Kelley and Tony Stewart. That’s the way coach Marvin Lewis likes it. Figure on limited fantasy value for all three. As it is, the team doesn’t use the tight end that much – the position accounted for just 9.5 percent of the team’s receiving yards in 2004 (league average 17.2 percent). That’s a trend that’s played out the last four seasons.
Last season, the Bengals used Schobel along with Reggie Kelly and Tony Stewart at tight end, and that figures to be the case in 2004. Of the three, Schobel is the best receiver and has caught 51 passes for 545 yards with four TDs over the past two seasons, but he’ll need to improve his blocking to stay on the field.
There wasn't a whole lot going on at tight end for the Bengals in 2002. Schobel had 27 passes for 212 yards and two TDs. There's clearly room for improvement at the position, which is partly why the club signed Reggie Kelly. It would be wise to wait and see what develops in training camp.
