Davenport had eight carries for 26 yards in Sunday's win over Tennessee.
ANALYSIS
The Colts gave most of the carries to Lance Ball in a meaningless game with both teams having locked up their playoff seeding. Davenport may return kicks in the playoffs if Chad Simpson can't play with an ankle injury, but won't have a larger role.

After Davenport signed in Pittsburgh, many envisioned him taking over Jerome Bettis’ short-yardage role. Instead, Willie Parker excelled at the goal line (10-for-21), leaving Davenport with little to do. He’s a fine blocker, and even a decent receiver, so despite his size, he’s become a third-down back in Pittsburgh. He struggled to stay healthy in the past but has also impressed at times. In 2007, he’s strictly insurance for Parker owners, assuming he beats out Kevan Barlow.
Davenport had a golden opportunity to establish himself as Green Bay’s No. 1 running back when Ahman Green went down, but after rushing for 54 yards and two touchdowns in the first half of his first start of the season, Davenport broke his ankle and was lost for the year. When healthy, Davenport’s a powerful, bruising runner who can chew up yardage (5.1 career YPC prior to last season) and do some damage in the red zone (the sample size is negligible, but he scored twice on three carries inside the 5 last year). Davenport was released by the Packers in early September.
The often injured Davenport got hurt again last season right after he was asked to step in for an injured Ahman Green. Davenport looks good when he plays, but he has a tough time staying healthy. He is good insurance to have on your team if you also have Ahman Green.
Ahman Green's top backup.

Davenport could return kickoffs this week against Detroit and could even back up Dominic Rhodes with Joseph Addai and Chad Simpson hurt. "We've got Joseph a little banged up, and Chad Simpson got a sprained ankle on his last kickoff return," head coach Tony Dungy told the team's official web site. "He may not be able to go, either. There's a chance Najeh could be playing right away. We'll get him up to speed as quickly as we can."
