RotoWire's Preseason Outlooks
There was no outlook written for Ian Gold.
Gold has put up decent tackle numbers over the last several years, averaging 89 in 2005 and 2006. However, his fantasy value is hampered by his lack of sacks or interceptions. Gold had none of either last season, and recorded just three sacks and no interceptions in 2005.
Gold returns as a starting outside linebacker after leading the Broncos in tackles last season. He rejoins Al Wilson and D.J. Williams in one of the stronger linebacking units in the league.
Gold, who played in Tampa Bay last season, is expected to resume his duties as the weakside linebacker, thus, pushing second-year pro D.J. Williams to the strongside. Gold is a ball hawk and should produce steady numbers for the individual defensive player leagues.
He'll compete for a starting strong side linebacker spot in 2004.
Playing the weakside allows Gold to be actively involved in pursuing the QB and the ball carrier. He had 85 tackles, 14 assists, 6.5 sacks and two fumble recoveries in 2002. Look for him to continue being actively involved on defense.
