James Mungro: Could Resurface With Colts
RBFree Agent
Knee - ACL
June 13, 2007
Mungro worked out for the Colts on Tuesday, the Indianapolis Star reports. Indianapolis is considering re-signing him after he missed all of last season after tearing the anterior cruciate ligament in his right knee.
ANALYSIS
If Mungro signs with the Colts, and is back to full strength, he could become the primary backup to Joesph Addai with no other running back on the roster having a carry in an NFL game.

Mungro is the third-string running back who could get carries at the goal line.
Mungro will serve as the third string and short-yardage running back. With Edgerrin James and Dominic Rhodes healthy he had only five carries last season. However, he is used in some goal line packages as a second back and caught three touchdown passes in the red zone.
Mungro was limited to a short-yardage role last season and later struggled with a turf toe injury which ended his season. He'll have a similar limited role this season.
Mungro, an undrafted rookie from Syracuse who was signed off waivers from the Lions just before the start of last season, came out of nowhere and ended the season as the team's top reserve behind Edgerrin James. He also became the Colts’ short-yardage back, finishing the season with 336 yards and eight touchdowns on 97 carries. Though we doubt he'll vulture as many scores this season, Mungro has a chance to hold on to the #2 job, and if he does, he's decent Edge Insurance.
