Just one week after re-signing with the Broncos, Cobbs was informed he will be cut Tuesday, the Denver Post reports.
ANALYSIS
Releasing Cobbs indicates the Broncos have confidence their injury plagued running back corps will be ready for the season. Travis Henry has been out with a knee injury, and Mike Bell has been out with a hip injury. The move also improves rookie Selvin Young's chances of making the roster.

Cobbs entered training camp as the Broncos' third running back, but now faces the possiblitly of battling undrafted rookie free agant Mike Bell for the spot. Cobbs has been a bit dissapointing early in his career, while Bell, a Denver native, has exploded onto the scene at Denver's camp. With Ron Dayne and Tatum Bell ahead of him however, it probably doesn't matter if Cobbs is third or fourth on the depth chart, as he still won't get many carries.
With New England last year, a hamstring injury early in training camp landed Cobbs on the physically unable to perform list and he wound up playing only four games, rushing just 22 times for 50 yards (2.3-yard average). The Patriots liked Cobbs' ball-carrying ability, but he was cut in August after not proving to the team that he had refined the other aspects of his game.
A fourth-round pick in the 2004 NFL draft, Cobbs is seen as a project with some upside. His stock on draft day slipped due to some perceived off-field issues, but the Pats will develop him as a possible successor for Corey Dillon down the road. There's even talk that if he grasps the offense well enough, he'd be first in line to take over for Dillon should he go down with an injury.
