RotoWire's Preseason Outlooks
There was no outlook written for Marlin Jackson.
Jackson suffered a torn Achilles' tendon and is out for the 2010 season.
Jackson will start at cornerback across from Kelvin Hayden in 2009. He recorded 47 tackles in 2008 in just seven games. His tackle numbers should stay solid in 2009 with the Colts running the cover two. This defensive scheme relies on cornerbacks to make tackles on running plays.
Jackson is locked in as the Colts number one corner and has shown progression in each of his three season. Last year, he totaled 0.5 sacks, 1 INT and 87 tackles. Jackson showed playmaking capabilities in college and could still up his IDP ranking by racking up more interceptions.
Jackson, who has bounced around the Colts' secondary in his first two seasons, will start in one of the cornerback spots vacated by Nick Harper and Jason David. Jackson started six games at strong safety and two games at free safety last season, and has proven to be a hard-nosed DB with good coverage skills. The former first-round pick should be up to the task of starting this season.
In a reserve role last season, Jackson made an impression as a strong tackler who could also hold his own in coverage. He's a rising fantasy IDP star if he gets a starting job at either safety or cornerback.
The 2005 first-round draft pick will compete for a starting cornerback job right away.
