Kuhn announced Wednesday that he has officially retired from the NFL as a member of the Packers.
ANALYSIS
After going undrafted out of Division II Shippensburg in 2005, Kuhn broke into the NFL with Pittsburgh but enjoyed his best years in Green Bay. While serving as an effective lead blocker and occasional short-yardage threat, the fullback earned first-team All-Pro honors in 2014 and was a second-team All-Pro in 2011. After cutting ties with the Packers in 2016, Kuhn tried to keep his career alive in New Orleans, but he hadn't surfaced in the league since finishing the 2017 season on injured reserve with a torn biceps. Kuhn will retire with over 1,300 total yards, 19 rushing touchdowns, nine receiving scores and a pair of Super Bowl rings.

The ultimate touchdown vulture, Kuhn re-signed with the Saints this offseason. In his first season in New Orleans, the veteran fullback managed only 107 total yards in 16 games but scored five touchdowns. Kuhn will be 35 years old when the 2017 season kicks off, but the 12-year pro solidified himself as a goal-line threat and safety blanket for Drew Brees, which gives him a bit of value in deep fantasy formats, even if he doesn't receive many touches.
Kuhn signed with the Saints at the start of training camp after spending the last nine seasons with the Packers. He is expected to complete with incumbent fullback starter Austin Johnson. If Kuhn can secure the starting role, he could be a threat around the goal line, having scored 23 total touchdowns during his 11-year career.
Long a fan favorite in Green Bay, Kuhn will return to the Packers for another season despite the team's lack of reliance on the fullback position. However, the team's selection of fellow fullback Aaron Ripkowski in the sixth round of May's draft leaves his roster spot volatile in 2015. Kuhn played on less than 20 percent of the Packers' offensive snaps last season, so even if he earns a spot on the 53-man roster, his role would likely be limited to just a few carries in short-yardage situations.
After speculation that the Packers might let Kuhn go to another team, Green Bay signed their hard-nosed fullback who had only 10 carries and 13 catches last year, his lowest output in the past four years. After scoring eight touchdowns in 2011-12, Kuhn has only two touchdowns from 2012-13.
Kuhn is the starting fullback for the Packers who sees touchdown opportunities in short-yardage.
Kuhn will start at fullback for the Packers in 2012. Coach McCarthy likes to give the ball to Kuhn in short yardage situations, and that should continue this year. But even with the departure of Ryan Grant, Kuhn's role should not expand from what it was last season as the Packers like the group of young runningbacks on their roster.
Kuhn returns to Green Bay with a three-year contract and the expectation that he will be the full-time fullback again. With Ryan Grant returning from injury, plus the emergence of James Starks, Kuhn's 2010 fantasy production will likely not be duplicated in 2011.
Kuhn will compete for the starting fullback spot.
Kuhn played in all 16 games for Green Bay last season, but he is not guaranteed a roster spot in 2009 after the Packers drafted LSU's Quinn Johnson in April's draft. The coaching staff is high on Johnson and will likely keep him on the roster based purely on potential, leaving Kuhn and Korey Hall to battle for one roster spot.
Kuhn will backup Korey Hall at fullback.
Kuhn's best chance of seeing the field is on special teams in 2007. He's looked impressive at times the last couple exhibition seasons running the ball but doesn't seem to have the straight-away speed to get the job done. He carried the ball two times in nine games with Pittsburgh last year.
