Kalil signed a five-year extension with Carolina on Friday, Panthers.com reports.

Given that he was previously locked in for about $10.5 million under the franchise tag, this signing will definitely save the Panthers some cap space, lowering the dollar figures in exchange for the long-term security. Kalil is an elite center and one of the main reasons why the Carolina offensive line is potentially one of the league's best (pending the health of Jeff Otah's knee, at least). Assuming the five-year extension is based on the already-signed franchise tender, this should be a six-year deal.
Kalil signed his franchise tender, Gaston Gazette writer Steve Reed reports.
