RotoWire's Preseason Outlooks

2015

Subscribe now to see our 2015 outlook.

2014

Spaeth missed much of last season due to injury, but figures to serve as the primary backup to tight end Heath Miller in 2014.

2013

Spaeth is likely to serve as the Steelers' No. 2 TE behind Heath Miller.

2012

Spaeth will be used primary as a blocker in 2012.

2011

Spaeth will be used as an extra lineman when taking the field for the Bears, and will offer very little receiving output while concentrating on blocking.

2010

Spaeth will not garner much time on the field as long as Heath Miller remains healthy. The backup tight end recorded just five catches and one touchdown in 2009.

2009

Spaeth will once again backup starting TE Heath Miller in 2009. He grabbed 12 catches for over 100 yards in Weeks 10 and 11 combined when Miller was sidelined with an ankle injury. However, his production with Miller in the lineup is practically nil. He will see the occasional reception now and then, but for the most part has no real fantasy relevance unless Miller misses action.

2008

Spaeth logged just five receptions in 2007, but three were for touchdowns. Standing at 6-7 with nice, soft hands, he should continue to see action at the goal line every now and then and grab the occasional touchdown but has limited value as long as Heath Miller is healthy.

2007

Spaeth was surprisingly drafted in the third round even though players like running back Michael Bush were still available at positions the Steelers appear to lack depth. Spaeth could find the field in multiple tight end sets that new offensive coordinator Bruce Arian favors. He'll likely be a last-choice target behind fellow tight ends Heath Miller and Jerame Tuman. His 6-foot-7 frame could make him an occasional red zone target, even as a rookie.
