RotoWire's Preseason Outlooks
There was no outlook written for Zac Diles.
Diles has struggled to get on the field the past two seasons while suiting up for three different teams. Still, he showed some promise early in his career as a temporary starter in Houston. If he can win the race between he, Akeem Jordan and rookie Nico Johnson for the right to start next to Derrick Johnson, Diles could provide a quiet source of tackles.
Diles is expected to move immediately into the starting weakside linebacker spot. While he isn't going to go to any Pro Bowls, the free agent LB from Texas finally gives the club a legit WLB and rounds out a much more well-rounded linebacking corp that what was seen in 2010.
Diles will start at weakside linebacker in Houston's 4-3 defense, though initially he'll be asked to play the strong side while Brian Cushing serves a four-game suspension.
Diles enters training camp after coming back from a broken leg that ended a promising 2008 season. He was the Texans' leading tackler before getting injured in Week 8. He was replaced by Xavier Adibi for the rest of the season and two will compete for the weakside linebacker job in 2009.
Diles is one of several linebackers looking for the open starting spot at strongside linebacker.
Diles has been very good on special teams and could make the opening day roster.
