RotoWire's Preseason Outlooks

2014

There was no outlook written for Lawrence Jackson.

2013

Jackson, in his first season with the Vikings coming over from the Lions, will be a backup defensive end behind Brian Robison.

2012

Jackson could see some early-camp reps with the first team with Cliff Avril reporting late, but will certainly cede the job upon Avril's arrival.

2011

Jackson’s future looked quite grim before the 2010 season. At the request of his former college coach, Pete Carroll, the Seahawks traded the former first-round selection for just a sixth-round pick after Jackson totaled only 6.5 sacks in two seasons. But even with seemingly no one in his corner, Jackson didn’t pack it in. He slowly worked his way onto the field in Detroit and caught fire once he got there. He totaled 30 tackles (18 solo) and five sacks in his last seven games – very impressive numbers for a rotational player. Detroit needs to get Jackson on the field after how he finished last year.

2010

A first-round pick in 2008, Jackson has not lived up to expectations. Injuries haven't helped, but development has been slow. This season he is re-united with his college coach, Pete Carroll, who promises to start Jackson at defensive end. Whether Jackson can find his footing in year three remains to be seen. But keep him on your IDP radar just in case.

2009

Jackson shared time early last season with Darryl Tapp and then found more playing time after Patrick Kerney was injured. His rookie season was encouraging, though he did not post significant tackles or sacks (two). Jackson will be in the DE rotation, but Tapp and Kerney likely will start.

2008

Jackson, Seattle's first-round pick, will compete for a starting DE job with Darryl Tapp and will bolster the defensive line rotation as he can also shift to tackle. A four-year starter at USC, Jackson likely won't start, but he will help keep the defensive ends fresh after Patrick Kerney wore down last season.
