2009
Washington will compete for a spot as a reserve safety.
Washington played in just eight games for the Chiefs as a rookie, finishing with five tackles and failing to make a noticeable impact on either defense or special teams. Kansas City moved him to safety this offseason, but the depth chart is loaded with hopefuls at that position and Washington will need a strong camp to earn any type of meaningful role. He can safely be ignored in IDP leagues for now.
Due to an NFL rule that prohibited him from joining the Chiefs until after Ohio State’s commencement ceremony, Washington missed a significant portion of Kansas City’s offseason practices, which could hurt his chances of cracking into the nickel package in 2009. The Chiefs already have a good stable of young cornerbacks, so Washington’s best chances of making an impact in 2009 will come on special teams.
