RotoWire's Preseason Outlooks

2014

There was no outlook written for Derrick Williams.

2011

Williams has never been able to impress the Detroit coaching staff or produce much on the field. With a Detroit receiving corps that's top-heavy, Williams will get chances to see the field, but he hasn't done much with the few opportunities he's gotten in his two years with the Lions.

2010

Williams will be the Lions' fourth wideout and should make an impact on special teams as a returner. With Bryant Johnson and Nate Burleson ahead of him on the depth chart - not to mention Calvin Johnson - it will be hard for the former Penn State star to move up in the pecking order.

2009

Williams showed flashes of brilliance in his collegiate career, but injuries and inconcistency plagued him throughout his time at Penn State. He isn't expected to see the field often as a receiver in his rookie campaign, but could be handed the reigns of the return game right from the get-go. He has the potential to be an explosive player, especially if he shares the field with Calvin Johnson.
