Johnson signed a two-year contract with the Steelers on Thursday.
ANALYSIS
As a backup tight end in Pittsburgh last season, Johnson played in all 16 games and made five starts. He finished the regular season with seven receptions for 80 yards. He'll figure to be a backup once again in 2017 and shouldn't be expected to have much fantasy value.

The running backs behind Lev Bell are incredibly sparse this week. Lamar Miller might have been a disappointment this year and has missed the last two games, but could be the #2 back.

Johnson returns this season in his role as the third tight end on the depth chart behind Jesse James and Xavier Grimble. After hauling in just seven receptions despite playing in all 16 games, Johnson should once have little fantasy relevance.
Signed this offseason, Johnson returns for a second stint with Pittsburgh after spending the last two seasons with San Diego. Entering his eighth season in the league, he will compete for the starting tight end position vacated by the retirement of Heath Miller. Johnson’s ability to also play fullback should help him make the 53-man roster out of training camp.
Johnson’s best statistical season came in 2011 with Pittsburgh when he caught 12 passes for 91 yards and one touchdown, but he only had one reception last season in San Diego as the Bolts used him more as a blocker than a receiver.
Johnson figures to be used primarily as a blocking fullback in San Diego, though his role will likely be better defined in training camp.
Johnson missed the entire 2012 season due to a knee injury, and must prove he is fully healed. He is an solid blocker, but has never shown much potential to be a threat in the passing game.
This converted tight end was in line to be the lead blocker in Pittsburgh's offense until he suffered a torn ACL in the preseason opener.
Johnson is down on the depth chart for the tight end position. He has good blocking skills but no value for fantasy purposes.
Drafted in the seventh round by the Steelers in 2009, Johnson is of no fantasy relevance. His blocking skills may let the team consider using him as an H-back.
