RotoWire's Preseason Outlooks

2014

There was no outlook written for Jovan Belcher.

2012

Belcher will compete with Brandon Siler (who spent 2011 on IR) for a starting spot next to Derrick Johnson in the team's base 3-4 defense. With the presence of Johnson and return of Eric Berry, however, his tackle numbers will likely be limited even if he remains as a starter. Having also contributed just one sack and no interceptions in three seasons, the upside for Belcher as an IDP is not particularly high.

2011

Belcher will start at the inside linebacker position next to Derrick Johnson, and will make many of the tackles that Johnson and Pro Bowl safety Eric Berry miss, which unfortunately for him, is not enough to make him a starting IDP. After posting 84 total tackles in 2010 though, he is a reasonable sleeper worth watching.

2010

Despite joining the Chiefs as a little-regarded undrafted rookie out of Maine, Belcher emerged as one of the team's more promising young defenders. He makes up for below-average size with good athleticism and explosiveness, both on special teams and as an inside linebacker. To project him as a usable IDP in 2010 is asking too much (he probably won't even begin the year as a starter), but he is certainly trending upward.
