Fumbles his way toward free agency
WRDenver Broncos
January 30, 2017
Norwood was targeted 35 times in 2016, tallying 21 catches, 232 yards, and a touchdown. He returned 25 punts for 204 yards and another three kicks for 65 yards.
ANALYSIS
Norwood's punt returning ability was an asset during the Broncos' Super Bowl run, and he even set a Super Bowl record for longest punt return. That element of his game became a liability in 2016, as he fumbled five times down the stretch, losing three. Two of those losses came in Denver's overtime defeat against the Chiefs in Week 13. Norwood was the Broncos' third-most prolific wide receiver in 2016, a title that carries little weight given his competition. Based on his issues with ball security in 2016 and younger options available, it wouldn't be a surprise if Norwood's days in Denver are over.

Norwood impressed the Broncos with his abilities as a returner during the 2014 preseason and the team stuck with him after he went down with a torn ACL. They were rewarded for their patience with a rebound season that saw Norwood finish fourth on the team with 207 receiving yards. He returns to Denver on a one-year deal after testing the waters of free agency and, though he's a fair bet to return to his role as Denver's man in the slot, at almost 30 years old it would be a surprise to see him improve exponentially.
Norwood's season was derailed by a torn ACL sustained in August.
Norwood has shown brief glimpses of potential in each of the last two seasons. In 2011 he had four-catch, 69-yards-and-a-touchdown performance and last season he posted nine receptions for 81 yards in Week 5 against the Giants. Unfortunately, he's never been able to build any consistency off of those outings and he's coming off a season-ending foot injury.
Norwood was pegged as the Browns slot receiver in training camp last summer, but the playing time and targets never materialized. He finished 2011 with just 23 receptions for 268 yards and one score. Most of his production came late in the season filling in for an injured Mohamed Massoquoi, but unfortunately Norwood's season was also cut short after he suffered a concussion in Week 15. He has some potential, but the additions of rookies Travis Benjamin and Josh Gordon have further clogged up the receiver ranks in Cleveland, likely leaving Norwood as an odd man out in 2012.
Norwood has not done anything particularly special since entering the league in 2009, but he could be working himself into the mix of unproven wideouts in Cleveland. He is still young, but other than Josh Cribbs the entire Browns receiving corps is young. Keep him on your watch list as he will be given opportunity early, especially with Mohamed Massaquoi missing chunks of time in the early goings of camp.
