Misi (neck) was placed on the Dolphins' injured reserve list Tuesday, Barry Jackson of the Miami Herald reports.
ANALYSIS
Misi, who underwent season-ending neck surgery in 2016, recently failed a test that would've declared him healthy enough to play in 2017 if passed. The Dolphins selected Raekwon McMillan in the second round of this year's draft, so he'll now have a more direct route to playing time as a rookie with Misi likely sidelined for the year. It's an unfortunate series of events for the 30-year-old veteran, while it remains to be seen if Misi will ever be able to return to his original level of play.

Misi has been a perennial disappointment for Miami since being drafted in the second round of the 2010 draft. He did have 79 tackles in 2015, his most to date, but those came without any sacks, interceptions, or forced fumbles. He will begin the season as the starting SLB but another subpar season could be his last in Miami.
Misi has never been the player the Dolphins thought they were getting when they drafted him in the second round of the 2010 NFL Entry Draft. They thought they were getting a player that would anchor the middle linebacking position for the next decade but injuries, off field issues, and subpar play have curtailed their expectations. He is of now slotted to open the season at MLB but the team has fooled around with moving him outside in each of the past few training camps so an injury or two could see him become a utility linebacker.
When Misi was drafted by the Dolphins in 2010 it was with the idea that he would man the outside linebacker position for quite a few years and be a possible Pro Bowler. Well those plans have never come to fruition as this is now the second straight off-season that the Dolphins are toying with the idea of moving Misi to middle linebacker. The team will tell you it's because they want to add versatility to his game but the truth is it's because he has been very underwhelming on the outside.
Misi is entering the final year of his contract and started to show some promise in the 4-3 defensive scheme last year, but not enough to be a top IDP guy. With only 65 tackles and 3.5 sacks last year Misi will need to pick up his play quite a bit to earn another contract with Miami.
Much was expected of Misi when he was drafted in 2010 but disappointment has marked his career so far. Misi looks like a two-down linebacker this season as he could be replaced in obvious passing situations.
Misi had 41 tackles and 4.5 sacks his rookie season but is primed for an even better sophomore year. The Dolphins offense may be one of the weaker ones in the NFL, but the defense is expected to be top notch. Now Misi may not put up huge sack numbers, but seven to eight sacks combined with 80-100 tackles is not out of the question. In IDP leagues Misi deserves consideration in the mid to late rounds of your draft.
Misi was drafted in the second-round of the 2010 draft and could have an immediate impact for the Dolphins this season if he can win a starting job in camp. IDP leagues need to pay attention to his status, and if he is unable to win a starting job, than keeper and dynasty leagues need to keep Misi in mind when their selections come up.
