Thurmond, who is competing for a starting safety spot, continues to draw praise from head coach Chip Kelly, the Philadelphia Inquirer reports. "Walt's done a really nice job," Kelly said. "He's probably been our most productive guy in the secondary in terms of pass breakups and strips and things like that. He always seems to be around the ball, so he seems like he's fitting in there right now. But again, we still don't have pads on, we're still evaluating guys with helmets and shorts and T-shirts."

RotoWire's Preseason Outlooks

2016

There was no outlook written for Walter Thurmond.

2015

Thurmond spent the first five years of his professional career playing cornerback. Now, he’s entering the Eagles’ training camp as the leading candidate for the starting strong safety position. Thurmond has only started nine games in his career, and has one interception to his name, but ready or not, he’ll be counted on to add to both of those numbers.

2014

Third corner who could push for a starting role.

2010

A fourth-round draft pick, Thurmond saw his 2009 season at Oregon cut short by a knee injury. If the knee holds up, Thurmond will back up one of the cornerback spots and be used in nickle and dime situations.
