September 19, 2017
Dray was released Tuesday by the Cardinals, Darren Urban of the Cardinals' official site reports.
ANALYSIS
The Cardinals signed Dray last week in order to add depth to an injured tight end unit. Now, with his release, it would appear that starter Jermaine Gresham (ribs) likely will return for Week 3 after being inactive for Sunday's win over the Colts.

Dray was in Cleveland last year and served as the Browns’ number two tight end behind Gary Barnidge. In a 2015 season that saw Barnidge post an incredible line of 79-1043-9, Bray became more of an afterthought in the Browns’ offense, catching six of 16 targets for 61 yards and zero touchdowns despite playing over 40 percent of the Browns’ offensive snaps. The seventh-year veteran out of Stanford will be stuck behind Charles Clay on the Bills’ depth chart this coming season, and there’s little reason to believe he’ll provide significant fantasy production given last year's numbers.
Dray will likely make the 2015 roster as a reserve tight end, fighting for reps in a position group that also includes Rob Housler and Gary Barnidge. Even with last year's starter, Jordan Cameron, hampered by injuries for most of the season, Dray still only caught 17 passes, so the fantasy upside is limited.
Dray posted respectable numbers last year in Arizona, gaining 215 yards on 26 receptions in a backup role. While he will occupy a similar role in Cleveland this year, backing up Pro Bowler Jordan Cameron, the Browns may offer a more tight end-friendly attack compared to the Cardinals, though it remains to be seen how the offensive scheme will change under new coach Mike Pettine.
Remains behind Heap and Housler at tight end, and has no fantasy value for the forseeable future.
Dray was already a tight end not worthy of fantasy consideration before the addition of Todd Heap. A seventh-round pick in 2010, Dray could find himself on the outside looking in at the end of training camp.
Reserve tight end, but at 6-foot-5, could eventually become a red-zone option down the road as there are no sure things at the position for Arizona entering training camp.
