Maneri was released by the Jets on Tuesday.

ANALYSIS
With injuries compromising the Jets' depth at outside linebacker, a roster spot was needed at that position, resulting in Maneri's corresponding release. The Jets added Maneri to their roster in June after Zach Sudfeld was placed on IR, but the 6-foot-7 tight end didn't do enough to distinguish himself in the early part of training camp.

The Jets were well stocked at tight end in training camp with Jeff Cumberland, Jace Amaro, and Kellen Davis in the fold, resulting in Maneri's unsurprising release in August.

A converted offensive lineman, Maneri will look to fill Matt Spaeth's old role as a blocking specialist at tight end for the Bears. He won't receive many looks in the passing game.

Maneri will compete for a reserve position on the offensive line.

Maneri will be a reserve offensive tackle in 2011.
