Lorenzo Alexander: Past News Updates   ( ▲ View most recent update )

With Manny Lawson getting cut this weekend, Alexander is expected to start at outside linebacker opposite Jerry Hughes, The Buffalo News reports. Said coach Rex Ryan, "At no point did I think his role would be a starter for us, but he earned that right and I think that's where he is. Obviously when Shaq Lawson comes back, that role may be a lot different, but I can tell you this right now - he earned it. You guys know it. I know it. You put the tape on, all he did is make plays, show up. He's smart and I think it's more about him than anything else."

Coach Rex Ryan said that if neither Shaq Lawson nor Manny Lawson is available for Week 1, he'll tab Alexander as his starter, BuffaloBills.com reports. "Sometimes we put Striker in there. Sometimes we put IK out there. Heís been primarily the starter, but if we were going to start a game today, Iíd start 57. Iíd start Zo at that spot. I canít tell you the last mistake heís made. I think heís made one or two the entire camp. Veteran player, but it wasnít the role that I wanted for him, and Iím not going to put him there. I want some of these young guys to see if they canít step up and do it."

RotoWire's Preseason Outlooks

2016

There was no outlook written for Lorenzo Alexander.

2015

After spending his first two seasons in Arizona playing primarily special teams, Alexander entered training camp at the top of the Cardinals' depth chart at weak-side linebacker. However, he slowly fell out of favor and found himself on the chopping block at the first cut-down date. If he lands elsewhere, the 32-year-old will likely hold down a specials-teams gig yet again.

2012

Backup linebacker and special teams leader.

2011

Alexander had his best season as a pro in 2010. He recorded 57 tackles, two sacks, and a forced fumble. He took over the starting outside linebacker job when Andre Carter proved ineffective. Alexander is expected to play outside linebacker again and should improve on his numbers.
