Exclusive Fantasy Analysis (FREE PREVIEW)

The report notes that Mallett (a 2011 third-rounder) has had his best training camp with the Patriots to date, thus solidifying his position as Brady's top backup. With Mallett entering the final year of his rookie contract, and Jimmy Garoppolo now in the team's QB mix, it's conceivable that the team could entertain the notion of dealing Mallett to a quarterback-seeking team at some point down the road, but such a scenario remains highly speculative at this point.

2014

2013

Mallett only holds value in dynasty leagues, as he is expected to back up Tom Brady in 2013. Tim Tebow is also in the team's backup QB mix, but Mallett is aided in that regard by the fact that he has superior arm strength.

2012

The strong-armed Mallett remains behind Brian Hoyer on the Patriots' QB depth chart, but Hoyer in line to become a free agent next year. There is is the possibility that if another team dazzles New England with an offer, the lure of acquiring a valuable asset could conceivably be enough for the team to part with either QB.

2011

Look for Mallett's character concerns to subside in the coming months as he gets up to speed on the Patriot Way and he quietly learns the NFL ropes as an understudy to star QB Tom Brady. Mallett has plenty of detractors, but with no pressure to step in and rescue a franchise, he'll have time to round out his game, which has holes, at the pro level. Already blessed with great size and a cannon arm, Mallett would do well to mimic Brady's ability to sidestep pressure and make the correct reads. Easier said than done, but our view is that New England is a great landing spot for him, where he will either give the Patriots a talented insurance policy for Brady or perhaps serve as trade bait once the grooming process is complete.
