Leonard Hankerson

Hankerson signed with the Falcons this offseason on a one-year deal with the hopes of proving he’s fully recovered from an ACL injury that cost him the second half of the season in 2013 and most of the 2014 season. Hankerson only suited up for one game last season, and the lone ball thrown his way fell incomplete, but he’ll look to bounce back in a pass-friendly Atlanta offense. He should benefit from reuniting with offensive coordinator Kyle Shanahan, who once coached Hankerson in Washington. It’s clear that Julio Jones and Roddy White are the top targets in Atlanta, but Hankerson’s size and speed could help him beat out Devin Hester and Justin Hardy for the third receiving option. However, he only totaled 543 yards on 38 receptions in his best season as a pro (2012), leaving his fantasy value marginal at best.

A torn ACL and LCL suffered in November could keep him sidelined through training camp, and when he does get back on the field the Wahington depth chart is a lot more crowded than it was last season. Hankerson's not guaranteed a roster spot when he gets healthy.

With Robert Griffin under center and Pierre Garcon and tight end Fred Davis out with injuries, Hankerson had a chance for a larger role in Washington, but never showed enough consistency or focus. Still, he managed 9.5 YPT and 14.3 yards per catch and had two receptions for 40-plus on 57 targets. At 6-2, 209, and with 4.43 speed, Hankerson isn't overly quick, but he's physical, tough to bring down after the catch and capable of making plays downfield. With Garcon and Davis on the mend, there could be fewer targets up for grabs this year, but neither is out of the woods yet, Santana Moss is 34 and Josh Morgan has never been a primary receiver. In sum, as long as Griffin himself makes it back from a late-season knee injury, Hankerson has some upside in Year 3.

A hip injury that required offseason surgery limited Hankerson to just four games, but the rookie showed some promise in those contests, averaging 8.2 YPT, albeit in a very small sample (20 targets), and posting a 106-yard game in Week 10. At 6-2, 209, and with 4.43 speed, Hankerson isn’t overly quick, but he’s physical and tough to bring down after the catch. With Santana Moss turning 33 and coming off a poor year and Josh Morgan never having logged more than 81 targets in a season, Hankerson has a chance to carve out a significant – perhaps even starting – role opposite Pierre Garcon.

With Santana Moss re-signing with the Redskins and the acquisition of Jabbar Gaffney from the Broncos, Hankerson has some competition at the wide receiver spot. Drafted with the 79th overall pick, Hankerson has decent size (6-1, 209) and good timed speed (4.43 40), though he doesn't play quite that fast in pads. While Hankerson doesn't get points for style, he seemed to have a knack for big plays at Miami. Hankerson isn't overly quick, but he's physical and tough to bring down in the open field. He's also confident, declaring himself unequivocally "the best receiver in the draft."
