Yates is being considered as the starter at quarterback for the final game of the season against Tennessee, the Houston Chronicle reports.

Exclusive Fantasy Analysis (FREE PREVIEW)

Interim head coach Wade Phillips will use the time available this week to evaluate Case Keenum, who has ligament damage in his right (throwing hand) thumb, before making a decision on his starter this week. Yates has been a forgotten man this season, playing in two games in mop-up duty.
Yates split reps with Case Keenum during Wednesday's practice, the Houston Chronicle reports. Starting quarterback Matt Schaub (leg) did not practice.

2013

Subscribe now to see our 2013 outlook.

2012

After starting five games in Matt Schaub's absence last season, Yates will return to his back-up role this season with valuable game experience in case he is needed again.

2011

Yates turned around his pro prsspects with a breakout 2010 season at the University of North Carolina, turning himself into a fifth-round draft pick by Houston. He showed good maturity in 2010 after three seasons of inconsistency and calls for him to be replaced. Yates improved his accuracy and decision making in 2010 to lead the Tar Heels to an 8-5 record in a suspension-plagued season for the program. The Texans still have Matt Leinart, who was re-signed to a two-year deal, so Yates looks like the No. 3 QB for the Texans.
