Byron Maxwell: Past News Updates ( ▲ View most recent update )
Exclusive Fantasy Analysis (FREE PREVIEW)Maxwell was aiming to return to practice this week, but wasn't quite able to make it. However, considering he was so close, he'll likely be back at practice next week.
Exclusive Fantasy Analysis (FREE PREVIEW)Maxwell was initially feared to have suffered a serious ankle injury but fortunately escaped such a setback. Instead, the cornerback is dealing with a calf injury that might just sideline him a couple weeks. If that proves true, Marcus Burley is expected to start opposite Richard Sherman for the Seahawks, with DeShawn Shead filling the nickel role.
Exclusive Fantasy Analysis (FREE PREVIEW)The third-string corner did not miss a beat in the Seahawks secondary. Seattle plays a lot of man coverage, and Maxwell more than held his own against one of the league's best offenses. The Seahawks also helped him in zone coverage with double-teams on Saints tight end Jimmy Graham, who only caught three of nine targets. What's more, the Seahawks held the New Orleans offense to 188 total yards, the fewest in the Drew Brees/Sean Payton era, and held Brees to a mere 3.86 yards per attempt, his lowest mark since 2003. The Seahawks also snapped Brees' streak of 43 consecutive games with at least 200 passing yards. Maxwell will continue to start at cornerback, but the road does not get any easier with the San Francisco 49ers up next.
RotoWire's Preseason Outlooks
There was no outlook written for Byron Maxwell.
A 2011 sixth-round pick, Maxwell went from third-stinger to Super Bowl starter thanks to injuries and suspensions. He proved just as effective Brandon Browner and Walter Thurmond, if not moreso. Opposite Richard Sherman, nearly every opponent's pass came Maxwell's way. But quarterbacks had a mere 47.8 passer rating when targeting him, second in the NFL to Sherman's 36.2. In his five starts last year, Maxwell had four interceptions. He has good size at 6-1, 207, and is fast with a 4.46 40. He's guaranteed to get picked on by quarterbacks again this year, giving him a good chance at more interceptions.
